Senior Director of Development, Office of Major Gifts

Position Summary: Assist the Vice President for College Advancement in the design, implementation and management of a program to generate major gift support for the college. Primary emphasis will be on managing a team of gift officers and an individual portfolio in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and closure of major gifts of $25,000 or more.

Qualifications: Requirements include a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and support of the Christian character and mission of Westmont; a clear understanding of and ability to articulate the distinctives of a Christian Liberal Arts education; Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred; at least five years of development experience, including campaign work in a higher education setting, or applicable sales/marketing experience; and excellent oral and written communication skills. Also requires: experience successfully managing and leading a team; success in closing major gifts; and knowledge of or experience in planned giving.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the major gift team in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gift prospects and officers in their work with the use of a Moves Management framework
  • Provide quarterly reports to the Assistant VP for College Advancement showing the cultivation activity of the team as well as an update of pledges and gifts received
  • Organize and conduct regular prospect management meetings that provide the gift officers with an opportunity to review and discuss donor and prospective donor cultivation activity
  • Actively participate in the Office for College Advancement (OCA) Leadership Team bi-weekly meetings, providing updates of recent gift and pledge activity
  • Prepare written and oral presentations for individual prospects
  • Coordinate arrangements for visits of prospects and donors to the campus for meetings with others to include the VP for College Advancement and the President
  • Work with the Senior Director for Gift Planning by identifying planned giving prospects within Major Gift Officers’ portfolios
  • Provide for continuing stewardship of prospective and existing donors in coordination with the Assistant VP for College Advancement and the Director of Donor Relations
  • Travel and attend off-site meetings necessary to effectively manage a personal portfolio of donors and donor prospects
