SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Executive Director will oversee all aspects of personnel and financial management, program development and implementation, and facility operations based on general direction from the Board of Directors. The Executive Director is responsible for identifying sources of funding and the successful leadership and management of the organization according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors.

Jodi House, a California 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is a community-based, post-rehabilitation day program that provides opportunities for social interaction, life skill training, recreation, and support for adults living with acquired brain injury and their families.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports To: Board of Directors
Subordinate Staff: Director of Programs (1 FTE), Program Assistant (1 FTE), Program Assistants (2 PTE) Other internal contacts: Teachers and class instructors (Independent Contractors), Jodi House members, their family members, volunteers.
External contacts: Donors, grantees, media, general public, prospective donors, post-secondary institutions, and government and social services agencies.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
Administrative: Authority for all personnel management as subject to the Human Resources Policies and Procedures Manual (HR P&P Manual), and to report to the Board. The Executive Director is responsible for:

1. Recruitment, hiring, staffing and supervision of all staff positions.
2. Generating of annual performance evaluation for all staff, as directed in the HR P&P Manual.
3. Managing the promotion, disciplinary actions and exit interviews of all staff (employed and voluntary), in accordance with the HR P&P Manual.
4. Annual review/update of HR P&P Manual and all job descriptions for Board consideration.
Development Program: Acts independently with only general guidance of the Board of Directors, to develop, plan, direct, and implement a comprehensive development program that generates individual donor, foundation, philanthropic, government, and corporate support. Responsibilities include:
1. Develops and directs a fund development program that includes the annual fund plan, foundation and corporate gifts, special events, and planned giving.
2. Oversees and implements strategies that will grow annual revenue, writes proposals, and secures funding from corporate, government, individual, and foundation donors.
3. Leads strategies and research to identify, prioritize, cultivate, solicit, recognize, and steward all donors and prospects.
4. In coordination with the Board of Directors, builds and sustains relationships with current, new, and potential grant-giving organizations and individuals.
5. Works to secure progressive and/or socially responsible business sponsors for projects and fundraising events.
6. Develops, markets, and implements a planned giving program to ensure Jodi House’s long-term financial health.
7. Collaborates with staff and consultants to ensure that publications and website include donor-focused content.
8. Additional assignments as developed by the Board of Directors.

Communications: Works with staff, consultants, and board to ensure strong communications across all program areas to strengthen Jodi House’s overall effectiveness.
1. Collaborates with staff, consultants, board, and grantees to gather stories and statistics that demonstrate the organization’s work with grantees and donors.
2. Along with staff and Board of Directors, represents Jodi House at public events, conferences, workshops, and media events.
3. Coordinates public relations activities.

REQUIREMENTS:

The following are requirements of the position:

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field (Administration, Social Development, or other related discipline) required; graduate degree preferred.
  • Five or more years of progressive management experience in a nonprofit organization.
  • Experience in strategic development planning, budget preparation, major donor programs, institutional giving, planned giving, and capital campaigns.
  • Knowledge and experience in program management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent relationship-building and salesmanship.
  • Excellent management skills. Able to function in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Commitment and sensitivity to working with adults with brain injuries. Positive interaction with all entities and individuals served by Jodi House, its programs, and events.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Exceed, and QuickBooks.
  • A strong commitment to being an active and visible participant in the community.
